HIDING IN PLAIN SIGHT

I leveraged on the best chameleon traits I could muster to stay afloat and keep my head above water.

My mantra was simple. Breathe! Exhale! Do what it takes to survive.

Living on the sidelines had basically given me a semblance of comfort. A charade. A camouflage of epic proportions. Too scared to do more. Too angry to stay put.

So like a green viper on grass, or Jackie Chan in a congregation of Asians, my stay at the front lines was masked in a rhetoric of deceit, inertia and hesitancy.

I remained hidden in plain sight, wishing and waiting for the discomfort that would jolt me out of this unconsciousness back to reality.
