To T.B. Joshua, Sound Sultan, Engr Agara, The Ayonmikes, Afolabi and the other unremarkable deaths we never get to hear about!

-Written by Uloko Felix

The last three even came from different religions. Death didn't bother. Some had wealth, others influence and talent; some had neither. Death didn't treat any differently.

It's easy to eulogise now. Roll on a metaphorical floor, wailing and mourning such loss. It's easy to point out how poorer humanity is because of these exits.

All the while silently wishing it's not quite our turn yet. Thanking the Creator for the treasured oxygen we still can access for free.

Hoping for a semblance of clarity about the struggles we face here. Wondering frantically about the apparent partiality & unfairness.

Why would the prophet exit at the peak of his ministry? Not understanding the funny irony of cancer finding its way to the throat of a talented singer. Of all places. His throat. Really?

Why would kidnappers shoot the Engineer? Didn't they know he was rich enough to pay for any ransom? Why would assassins hack fellow humans to unrecognizable pieces with axes and cutlasses? What a way to die! Couldn't they have used the customary gunshot tl the head? And in the midst of these, being humbled by the cruelty of a father dying at age 39. No prior illness, no warning signs. And how do we feel comfortable with reporting dead people as mere statistics? Unknown gunmen kill 5 residents in a Nigerian village. No names, no details.

Somehow, we move on. Nature doesn't halt its course for such events. It's like a being forced to resume work at a detention camp that constantly kills your kin. You keep working, knowing your day would come eventually. Hoping you would have done enough to be reminded by. And praying that when your moment comes, you would be ready to embrace what comes after!
